Wandering Aengus Treks' offer a range of UK Walking Holidays.
These vary from short trips with moderately paced low level walks,
through longer multi-area tours - often with a historical or literary theme,
to tough hikes and scrambles in the most rugged parts of the British Isles.
Our walking Holidays
Unique itineraries. The itineraries for our UK walking holidays are put together with a lot of thought and care. Through our own extensive walking and hiking in the mountains and upland areas of Britain we know exactly what makes a satisfying trip, and all our UK walking holidays are created to show off the best of the areas we visit. These carefully crafted itineraries which are unique to Wandering Aengus Treks, are at the heart of what makes a great and memorable walking holiday.
Multi-area. During the past seven years that we have been running our tours and listening to our clients' comments and feedback, we have realised that what can make a great walking holiday exceptional, is to provide a contrast between different types of landscape within a single tour. We are very fortunate in this part of the world that such great variation in scenery, architecture and even local culture, can be experienced within just an hour of two of travel. Thus several of our UK walking holidays visit two or more National Parks or distinct areas of outstanding natural beauty within the same tour.
Themed Tours. More than just for fun, we theme many of our trips. This may be a historical theme such as on our very popular Edge of Empire tour where we follow the Roman occupation of Britain from the first to the fourth century BC, or it may be a literary theme where we visit the home countryside of for example Emily Bronte or Beatrix Potter. While we at Wandering Aengus are principally walkers, designing walking holidays for walkers, the theme adds another dimension, and on these trips in addition to the Wandering aengus Treks Tour leader, we will use local expertise and guides chosen by us for their ability to bring alive the history of the area.
Hikers Challenges. Our range of UK walking holidays include a number of tougher trips for those who relish a challenge. These may involve following a long distance footpath or they might be mountain scrambles on exciting ridges in Scotland, Snowdonia or the Lake District. Among these harder trips are the Three Peaks Challenge, and the complete round of the Welsh 'Three Thousanders'.
Small Groups. There is nothing worse than being part of a large group being herded around by a single guide. Inevitably this means some people having to walk faster than is comfortable while others are forced to be slower than is enjoyable for them, with the guide unable to give individual attention to any one group member. All our UK walking holiday groups are small - usually a a maximum of eight people - and our tours are accompanied by both a walking guide and a tour manager to ensure that individual preferences can be catered for.
Professional guides. On a Wandering Aengus UK Walking Holiday you will be in the capable hands of an experienced guide with extensive local knowledge of the area. The majority of trips are personally led by the two directors and we are members of ROAM, Cumbria's own accreditation scheme for outdoor activity providers. In addition to the guide, every walking holiday is also accompanied by a tour manager who looks after all the accommodation and transport arrangements and who can act as a second walking guide when necessary.
Accommodation. We recognise how important it is to end the day in a place that is both comfortable in terms of its beds and facilities, but also one that is a sheer delight to stay in. We carefully choose the accommodation for our walking holidays to provide the right balance of charm and comfort without it costing you an arm and a leg - something only local knowledge and personal acquaintance with what is on offer in an area can provide.
Packed Lunches. We know that many walking holiday providers regard the packed lunch as a minor detail. At Wandering Aengus Treks' we love that moment in the day when the group takes a long breather, sat usually on some high point, taking in a spectacular view, and we take our lunch together. We prepare our lunches with the same care that we bring to the planning of the rest of your trip, and among our clients they have become legend. Additionally our small group policy means that it is easy for us to cater for individual needs.
All Inclusive. We don't believe in extras and hidden costs. On a Wandering Aengus Treks' UK walking holiday everything is included except where it makes sense to give you the choice. All entrances to historic sites, museums, parks etc, all excursion fares, and all permits, fees etc are included. On most trips all meals are included too. On some of our walking holidays, where there might be a wide range of evening dining options, we may leave this choice to you. Any meals which are not included are always clearly stated in our trip dossiers, together with our estimated range of costs for these.
Easy booking. Our secure online booking system means joining any of our walking holidays is simple and safe. We are also very approachable and always happy to talk to people about our trips. Give us a call or drop us an email using the contact us link on the top menu bar.
