Hadrian's Wall Self-guided .

A Roman Coast-to-Coast walk from the mouth of the Tyne to the Solway Firth following the course of the greatest relic from the Roman occupation of Britain which lasted 400 years. Varied scenery and constant interest make for a world class long distance path right across Northern England. Along the way you will pass the sites or remains of the wall forts, milecastles and turrets, as well as several original and partly restored sections of the Wall itself.

Level of Difficulty

This 84 mile National Trail takes you along the riverside route in Tyneside, through the farmland of Tynedale, and up onto the spectacular escarpment of the Whin Sill. This central section involves a lot of ascent and descent, sometimes on rugged paths. Crossing into Cumbria, a gradual descent to a pastoral landscape brings you to the Roman city of Carlisle and a final level section to the salt marsh of the Solway Estuary.

Stage Options

Most walkers will do the entire route in 7 or 8 stages. We offer four easy-to-book options from 6 to 9 days walking, but if you have any doubts about which one is best for you, we would be happy to chat to you and arrange an itinerary that is best suited to you.

We also have 3 to 5 day options walking the Central section of the route. This is where you see the best of the remains of Hadrian's original Wall as well as the restored sections of the Wall and this is also where you will encounter the most spectacular scenery on the route.

Traditionally the walk is undertaken from East to West but if you wish to walk Hadrian's Wall the other way, starting on the Solway and ending in Newcastle, we can arrange this for you also.
